Register your own Fire Family Fundraiser this year and don’t forget to ask your friends, colleagues and family members to take part in their own event, too!
Whatever you decide to do, please get in touch with your local Community Fundraiser who will be able to advise on whether your fundraising will require any local authority permissions, or if there is anything else you need to do to keep your event safe. They will also provide you with support and guidance with your fundraising.
And remember to post your activity on social media – tagging us in – so we can support your incredible event or challenge. We can’t wait to see what you have planned!

Challenge yourself
Ever dreamt of climbing the Three Peaks? Or perhaps you’ve always wanted to cycle from Lands End to John o’ Groats? Well, this could be the perfect opportunity. A Fire Family Fundraiser can be anything you want it to be, so set yourself a goal – either solo, or with friends – and go for it – the possibilities are endless. Here’s some activities for inspiration:
- Local or national walking, running or climbing challenges
- Marathons and other runs
- Run, swim or cycle the distance between x, y and z
- 24 hour endurance challenges
- Overseas or ‘on home soil’ treks
- Daily distance or monthly target
Brew With A Crew
The humble cup of tea is an integral part of life for fire stations, control rooms and headquarters across the country. Form your crew on station and have a fundraising brew. You could even include a biscuit dunking competition! Or how about hosting a Brew With A Crew at an Open Day?
Here’s everything you need to know about hosting your own Brew With a Crew.

- Fire engine pulls
- Stretcher carries or fire bucket challenges

New recruit or Apprentice fundraiser
Starting a new career can be daunting, with lots of new people to get to know. Whether you are taking your first steps into the fire service as an Apprentice, or you’re a new recruit, fundraising is a great way to get to know people and often forms part of the training process. Here’s some great ways that previous cohorts have got involved in fundraising activities to raise funds for us:
- Ladder climbs and other fires service inspired challenges
- Team building hikes and climbs
- Bake sales
Senior leadership challenges
Just because you’re the Chief, doesn’t get you off the hook! Why not take on a Chief’s Challenge? Showing support for your charity will encourage others in your service to do the same. Or how about these other ideas:
- Jail ‘n’ Bail or ‘On the Run’
- Station to Station challenges
- Show you’re still (fire)fighting fit by taking on the same challenge as the new recruits. See who can raise more – you or them!

Community spirit
Do you love bringing some joy to your local community? Get others into the community spirit by organising and promoting an activity for our Charity. Here’s some ideas to get you started:
- Quiz night at your local pub
- Bucket collection at the local seasonal community events
- Create a calendar with your local WI
- Golf Days with your club
- Supermarket bag packs
- Bucket collections at a football match
- Plan a party or gala in your community hall
- Organise a indoor or outdoor fair
- Work with your local Rotary club
Wellbeing boost
Is there a habit you indulge a little too much in? It might be sweets, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, smoking…you could kick the habit and ask people to sponsor your journey. Or how about practising mindfulness and share updates on your progress?
It doesn’t need to be a ‘New year, new you’ activity – you can start your wellbeing challenge any time. Not only will you be raising funds to help your UK fire family, but small changes can make a big difference and boost your mood and wellbeing. So why not give it a try? Here’s some ideas to consider:
- Give up an unhealthy habit
- Commit to a new diet or exercise regime
- Get training for a challenge
- Take up yoga, Pilates or Tai-Chi
- Have a declutter and sell your unwanted items

Get crafty
Bring out the art supplies and host a ‘crafternoon’. No matter the season, friends and family can get involved and create something unique – and learn a new skill – in exchange for a donation. Or how about sharing your baked treats with colleagues? And don’t forget to share your creations on social media and tag us in.
- Pottery or flower arranging class
- Baking or drawing masterclass
- Strictly Come Dancing for Charity
- Bake sale
Gaming for Good
If you’re an avid gamer you could set-up a tournament with friends, with everyone donating to join and a prize for the winner. If you have the ability to live stream, you can fundraise for us on your stream using JustGiving or Tiltify.
Celebration fundraiser
Everyone loves a good ‘Knees Up’ and there are plenty of things to celebrate. A milestone birthday, retirement, a station anniversary, getting a new station… Celebrate with colleagues, friends and family while asking for a suggested donation.
- Ticketed on-station events – invite your retired colleagues or the local community
- Auctions and raffles – raffling items you have had donated or an auction of skills
- Donations in lieu of presents
